Cherry Creek Nursery prides itself on growing top quality trees and shrubs.  We strive to grow all of our stock from cultivars but currently only 80% of our plants are from cultivars.  In our efforts to grow top quality plants, we have moved away from using most regular seedlings and now use cultivars exclusively for most plants.  Cultivars are genetically resistant plants with waxier, sun-resistant leaves that have brilliant fall foliage.

Throughout the nursery’s existence, we have made great efforts to seek out suppliers that produce the best liners available.  Some of the qualities we have sought are heavier root mass, certain types of cultivars, and longer, protected growth time for the seedlings.  Our liners are bought from top quality suppliers who take them up when dormant and store the liners in a controlled environment until planted by Cherry Creek.

Cherry Creek Nursery realizes that it is not only important to start with the best stock but to continually care for the plants as they mature.  Some of this care includes fertilizing 3 or more times a year.  The plants and shrubs are also sprayed for insects, fungi, mites, and bores.  Plants are staked while still in the early stages of development, which helps to ensure trunk straightness.  We continually prune our trees year round in order to remove bad crotch angles and crossing branches.  Trimming is also done on a continuous basis and these techniques have been developed over time.

Providing top quality growing conditions for our trees and shrubs is important to Cherry Creek Nursery.  All stock is field grown which adds to heartiness and survivability.  Plants are more likely to survive when transplanted because they have endured the stress of a natural environment.  When comparing our plants to those fed on drip lines, grown in greenhouses, or grown in containers, our stock proves to thrive in the conditions provided by nature.  Our root pruning techniques have been carefully developed over time and implemented with care to ensure higher transplantability.  Throughout the nursery, spacing of plants and shrubs is done on 8’ rows and 6’ centers to ensure optimal canopy size and consistent shape.
